I collect antique jade buttons as a pastime. My buttons date mostly from Ming through Qing Dynasty. Most of them were purchased in Singapore, and China. The best pieces come from Xian, Luoyang and Shenzhen.
Sometimes these buttons are also called jade flowers because of the floral design. Another use for them may have been as units for hairpins.
